Immigrant as a project worker
The target group of the Maahanmuuttajista elinvoimaa Koillismaalle project ('Vitality from immigration in Koillismaa') were immigrants. An immigrant worked as a project worker in this project.
Implementation of the good practice
An immigrant was employed as a project worker in the project. The expertise based on the experience of the project worker with an immigrant background greatly benefitted the immigrants who were clients of the project as it helped to identify their needs and see their points of view. The expertise based on experience opened an entirely new dialogue with the clients of the Maahanmuuttajista elinvoimaa Koillismaalle project and helped to direct the activities in the project in a direction that best benefitted the clients.
- Peer support activities such as a cafe for women were launched in the project
- People planning new activities have been more aware of the clients' perspective
- The clients' perspective is conveyed even to the cooperation network
- The immigrant's perspective has been the starting point also in the making of the communication and teaching material.
How to take advantage of the good practice
An expert by experience representing the target group is a great resource in any work community.
