Encaustic writing, or encaustic medium, as it is called, can be bought already tempered with resin, or you can make it yourself with two ingredients. You will also need a thermometer to keep the medium between 160 and 220 degrees Fahrenheit. Alternatively, you can use an iron or propane torch to fuse the layers of wax.

There has been an increase in encaustic writing as more artists writing in the abstract style with a medium that is translucent, elusive, and mysterious.
